Genesis32:1（KJV）And Jacob went on his way, and the angels of God met him.

Genesis 32:1（NIV） 【Jacob Prepares to Meet Esau】Jacob also went on his way, and the angels of God met him.

創32:2（UCV）雅各看見他們，就說：「這是　神的軍兵。」於是給那地方起名叫瑪哈念〔就是『二軍兵』的意思〕。

Genesis32:3（KJV）And Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother unto the land of Seir, the country of Edom.

Genesis 32:3（NIV） Jacob sent messengers ahead of him to his brother Esau in the land of Seir, the country of Edom.

Genesis 32:4（NIV）He instructed them: "This is what you are to say to my master Esau: 'Your servant Jacob says, I have been staying with Laban and have remained there till now.

Genesis32:5（KJV）And I have oxen, and asses, flocks, and menservants, and womenservants: and I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find grace in thy sight.

Genesis 32:5（NIV）I have cattle and donkeys, sheep and goats, menservants and maidservants. Now I am sending this message to my lord, that I may find favor in your eyes.'"

創32:6（UCV）所打發的人回到雅各那裡，說：「我們到了你哥哥以掃那裡，他帶著四百人，正迎著你來。」

Genesis 32:6（NIV）When the messengers returned to Jacob, they said, "We went to your brother Esau, and now he is coming to meet you, and four hundred men are with him."

創32:7（UCV）雅各就甚懼怕，而且愁煩，便把那與他同在的人口和羊群、牛群、駱駝分作兩隊，

Genesis32:7（KJV）Then Jacob was greatly afraid and distressed: and he divided the people that was with him, and the flocks, and herds, and the camels, into two bands;

Genesis 32:7（NIV）In great fear and distress Jacob divided the people who were with him into two groups, and the flocks and herds and camels as well.

創32:8（UCV）說：「以掃若來擊殺這一隊，剩下的那一隊還可以逃避。」

創32:8（NCV）心裡想：「即使以掃來擊殺這一隊，餘下的一隊還可以逃脫。」

創32:8（CLV）心想：「如果以掃來攻擊其中一隊，餘下的一隊就有機會可以逃生。」

Genesis32:8（KJV）And said, If Esau come to the one company, and smite it, then the other company which is left shall escape.

Genesis 32:8（NIV）He thought, "If Esau comes and attacks one group, the group that is left may escape."

創32:9（UCV）雅各說：「耶和華我祖亞伯拉罕的　神，我父親以撒的　神啊！你曾對我說： 『回你本地本族去，我要厚待你。』

創32:9（NCV）雅各說：「耶和華，我祖亞伯拉罕的　神，我父以撒的　神啊！你曾經對我說過： 『回到你自己的故鄉，到你的親族那裡去，我必厚待你。』

創32:9（CLV）之後，他就禱告，說：「我祖父亞伯拉罕和我父親以撒的上帝啊！你吩咐我返回家鄉，回到我親族那裡去，並且答應要厚待我。

Genesis32:9（KJV）And Jacob said, O God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, the LORD which saidst unto me,Return unto thy country, and to thy kindred, and I will deal well with thee:

Genesis 32:9（NIV）Then Jacob prayed, "O God of my father Abraham, God of my father Isaac, O LORD, who said to me,'Go back to your country and your relatives, and I will make you prosper,'

創32:10（UCV）你向僕人所施的一切慈愛，和誠實，我一點也不配得。我先前只拿著我的杖過這約但河，如今我卻成了兩隊了。

Genesis32:10（KJV）I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies, and of all the truth, which thou hast shewed unto thy servant; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I am become two bands.

Genesis 32:10（NIV）I am unworthy of all the kindness and faithfulness you have shown your servant. I had only my staff when I crossed this Jordan, but now I have become two groups.

創32:11（UCV）求你救我脫離我哥哥以掃的手；因為我怕他來殺我，連妻子帶兒女一同殺了。

創32:11（NCV）求你救我脫離我哥哥以掃的手，因為我怕他來擊殺我，連母親，和孩子也擊殺了。

創32:11（CLV）主啊！求你救我脫離我哥哥以掃的手，我真是十分害怕，我怕他會來攻擊我，把我的妻兒殺掉。

Genesis32:11（KJV）Deliver me, I pray thee, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau: for I fear him, lest he will come and smite me, and the mother with the children.

Genesis 32:11（NIV）Save me, I pray, from the hand of my brother Esau, for I am afraid he will come and attack me, and also the mothers with their children.

創32:12（UCV）你曾說：『我必定厚待你，使你的後裔如同海邊的沙，多得不可勝數。』」

創32:12（NCV）你曾經說過：『我必厚待你，使你的後裔好像海邊的沙一樣，多到不可勝數。』」

Genesis32:12（KJV）And thou saidst,I will surely do thee good, and make thy seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.

Genesis 32:12（NIV）But you have said,'I will surely make you prosper and will make your descendants like the sand of the sea, which cannot be counted.'"

創32:13（UCV）【雅各送禮物給以掃】當夜，雅各在那裡住宿，就從他所有的物中拿禮物，要送給他哥哥以掃：

Genesis32:16（KJV）And he delivered them into the hand of his servants, every drove by themselves; and said unto his servants, Pass over before me, and put a space betwixt drove and drove.

Genesis 32:16（NIV）He put them in the care of his servants, each herd by itself, and said to his servants, "Go ahead of me, and keep some space between the herds."

創32:17（UCV）又吩咐儘先走的說：「我哥哥以掃遇見你的時候，問你說：『你是那家的人？要往那裡去？你前頭這些是誰的？』

創32:17（NCV）他又吩咐走在最前的僕人說：「我哥哥以掃遇見你的時候，如果問你：『你的主人是誰﹖你要到哪裡去﹖在你前面的這些牲畜是誰的﹖』

創32:17（CLV）又吩咐領先的僕人說：「我哥哥以掃遇到你的時候，如果他問你是誰家的人？又問你要到哪裡去？這些牲畜是誰的？

Genesis32:17（KJV）And he commanded the foremost, saying, When Esau my brother meeteth thee, and asketh thee, saying, Whose art thou? and whither goest thou? and whose are these before thee?

Genesis 32:17（NIV）He instructed the one in the lead: "When my brother Esau meets you and asks, 'To whom do you belong, and where are you going, and who owns all these animals in front of you?'

創32:18（UCV）你就說：『是你僕人雅各的，是送給我主以掃的禮物，他自己也在我們後邊。』」

創32:18（NCV）你就要回答：『是你僕人雅各的，是送給我主以掃的禮物，他自己也在我們後面。』」

創32:18（CLV）你就說：『這是你僕人雅各送給主人以掃的禮物，他自己就跟在後面！』」

Genesis32:18（KJV）Then thou shalt say, They be thy servant Jacob's; it is a present sent unto my lord Esau: and, behold, also he is behind us.

Genesis 32:18（NIV）then you are to say, 'They belong to your servant Jacob. They are a gift sent to my lord Esau, and he is coming behind us.'"

創32:19（UCV）又吩咐第二、第三，和一切趕群畜的人說：「你們遇見以掃的時候，也要這樣對他說。

創32:19（NCV）他又吩咐第二個、第三個，和所有跟在隊伍後面的人說：「你們遇見以掃的時候，都要這樣對他說。

Genesis32:19（KJV）And so commanded he the second, and the third, and all that followed the droves, saying, On this manner shall ye speak unto Esau, when ye find him.

Genesis 32:19（NIV）He also instructed the second, the third and all the others who followed the herds: "You are to say the same thing to Esau when you meet him.

創32:20（UCV）並且你們要說：『你僕人雅各在我們後邊。』」因雅各心裡說：「我藉著在我前頭去的禮物，解他的恨，然後再見他的面，或者他容納我。」

創32:20（NCV）你們還要說：『你的僕人雅各在我們後面。』」因為他心裡想：「我先送禮物去，藉此與他和解，然後再與他見面，或者他會原諒我。」

Genesis32:20（KJV）And say ye moreover, Behold, thy servant Jacob is behind us. For he said, I will appease him with the present that goeth before me, and afterward I will see his face; peradventure he will accept of me.

Genesis 32:20（NIV）And be sure to say, 'Your servant Jacob is coming behind us.'" For he thought, "I will pacify him with these gifts I am sending on ahead; later, when I see him, perhaps he will receive me."

創32:21（UCV）於是禮物先過去了。那夜雅各在隊中住宿。

創32:21（NCV）於是禮物先過去了；那天晚上雅各在營中過夜。

Genesis32:21（KJV）So went the present over before him: and himself lodged that night in the company.

Genesis 32:22（NIV）【Jacob Wrestles With God】That night Jacob got up and took his two wives, his two maidservants and his eleven sons and crossed the ford of the Jabbok.

Genesis32:23（KJV）And he took them, and sent them over the brook, and sent over that he had.

創32:25（UCV）那人見自己勝不過他，就將他的大腿窩摸了一把，雅各的大腿窩正在摔跤的時候就扭了。

創32:25（NCV）那人見自己不能勝過他，就在他的大腿窩上打了一下。於是，雅各與那人摔角的時候，大腿窩脫了節。

創32:25（CLV）那人見不能勝過雅各，就向他的大腿窩的筋扭了一下，雅各大腿的關節就脫了節。

Genesis32:25（KJV）And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him.

Genesis 32:25（NIV）When the man saw that he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob's hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man.

創32:26（UCV）那人說：「天黎明了，容我去吧！」雅各說：「你不給我祝福，我就不容你去。」

創32:26（NCV）那人說：「天快亮了，讓我走吧！」雅各說：「如果你不給我祝福，我就不讓你走。」

創32:26（CLV）那人說：「天亮了，讓我走吧！」但雅各說：「要是你不祝福我，我就一定不讓你走。」

Genesis32:26（KJV）And he said,Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.

Genesis 32:26（NIV）Then the man said, "Let me go, for it is daybreak." But Jacob replied, "I will not let you go unless you bless me."

創32:27（UCV）【　神賜名以色列】那人說：「你名叫甚麼？」他說：「我名叫雅各。」

創32:27（NCV）【雅各獲勝之後改名以色列】那人問他：「你叫甚麼名字﹖」他回答：「雅各。」

創32:27（CLV）那人問道：「你叫甚麼名字呢？」「我叫雅各。

Genesis32:27（KJV）And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob.

Genesis 32:27（NIV）The man asked him, "What is your name?" "Jacob," he answered.

創32:28（UCV）那人說：「你的名不要再叫雅各，要叫以色列；因為你與　神與人較力，都得了勝。」

創32:28（NCV）那人說：「你的名字不要再叫雅各，要叫以色列，因為你與　神與人較力，都得了勝。」

創32:28（CLV）那人說：「那麼，你以後不要再叫雅各了，你要叫以色列；因為你跟上帝和人的角力都得勝了。」

Genesis32:28（KJV）And he said,Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.

Genesis 32:28（NIV）Then the man said, "Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with men and have overcome."

創32:29（UCV）雅各問祂說：「請將你的名告訴我。」那人說：「何必問我的名？」於是在那裡給雅各祝福。

創32:29（NCV）雅各問他，說：「請把你的名告訴我。」那人回答：「為甚麼問我的名呢﹖」他就在那裡給雅各祝福。

創32:29（CLV）雅各問：「請你告訴我，你到底叫甚麼名字？」那人反問說：「你問來幹甚麼？」最後，那人就在那裡給雅各祝福。

Genesis32:29（KJV）And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there.

Genesis 32:29（NIV）Jacob said, "Please tell me your name." But he replied, "Why do you ask my name?" Then he blessed him there.

Genesis 32:30（NIV）So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, "It is because I saw God face to face, and yet my life was spared."

創32:30（UCV）雅各便給那地方起名叫毘努伊勒〔就是『　神之面』的意思〕，意思說：「我面對面見了　神，我的性命仍得保全。」

創32:30（NCV）於是，雅各給那地方起名叫毘努伊勒，意思說：「我面對面看見了　神，我的性命仍得保全。」

創32:30（CLV）雅各叫那地方作毘努伊勒，因為他說：「我當面見過上帝，竟然還能夠保存生命！」

Genesis32:30（KJV）And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.

創32:31（UCV）日頭剛出來的時候，雅各經過毘努伊勒，他的大腿就瘸了。

創32:31（NCV）雅各經過毘努伊勒的時候，太陽剛剛出來，照在他身上。他因為大腿的傷，跛腳行走。

Genesis32:31（KJV）And as he passed over Penuel the sun rose upon him, and he halted upon his thigh.

Genesis 32:31（NIV）The sun rose above him as he passed Peniel, and he was limping because of his hip.

創32:32（UCV）故此，以色列人不吃大腿窩的筋，直到今日，因為那人摸了雅各大腿窩的筋。

創32:32（NCV）因此，以色列人直到現在都不吃大腿窩上的筋，因為那人在雅各的大腿窩上的筋打了一下。

創32:32（CLV）因為那人碰過雅各大腿窩的筋，所以直到今天以色列人都不吃大腿窩的筋。

Genesis32:32（KJV）Therefore the children of Israel eat not of the sinew which shrank, which is upon the hollow of the thigh, unto this day: because he touched the hollow of Jacob's thigh in the sinew that shrank.

Genesis 32:32（NIV）Therefore to this day the Israelites do not eat the tendon attached to the socket of the hip, because the socket of Jacob's hip was touched near the tendon.
